Man I smell... That's what you get from sweating. I thought it was going to rain in Rotterdam, but to my enormous surprise it didn't. On the contrary: the sun was shining and it got bloody warm as well. So why on earth did I bring that umbrella with me? Haha, I found out it did come in useful... more about it later in this report! *wink*
I went to Rotterdam at about 9 am in the morning, before that I just had enough time to drink some coffee and prepare myself for the parade. I was armed with a camcorder with the tape I used to record Ferry's set at Queensday in Amsterdam, so I thought it would be nice to film Ferry's set at FFWD right after the existing movie. I brought an extra tape just in case the battery gave me the opportunity to. I boarded the 9.18 am train towards Utrecht, there I immediately ran towards the bullit train to Rotterdam Central Station. I arrived there at around 10.45. There I had to wait for Linsey, who arrived at around 11.18.
Meanwhile I was walking around the station hall. I went into the Free Record Shop to buy a cd (Armin's latest album) for a change. After that I stood in front of the shop and I met up with Leon (aka Relay on the forum). We talked about things, and at the same time we waited for Linsey to arrive. She did arrive at around 11.30 on the rendez-vous (meet-up) point, together with Chris, Sheila, Tae and Mike. The Aussies were finally back again! :D
After a lightening-speed visit to the men's room we left the building. From Central Station it was a 10-minute walk towards the starting point of the parade. We were looking for Ferry's truck, but no luck. We decided to follow the first dozen of trucks. At a moment we stopped, waiting, looking, searching. Sheila had gone back the where they started to look for the Ferry Corsten truck. Later, Chris told me Ferry was on truck no. 34. As the truck nos. rose, we got close to our destination. Meanwhile I filmed a lot of hilarious scenes, including Relay dancing :p, and ofcourse close-ups of hot chicks on the trucks that went by. (I really screwed it up by sometimes turning the camera 90 degrees, now you have to bend your neck 90 degrees to the right shoulder to watch those pieces "normally").
As truck no. 30 passed by, a fight was going on close to us. There was one individual hurt, but as we passed by it wasn't that bad at all. We ran towards no.34, and behind the truck there was Sheila with Bijtje. When I filmed Ferry, the first thing he noticed was me... he was surprised and asked me if I had brought my mom's Vietnamese loempias (egg-roles). I couldn't understand what he was said (I can't read lips though), but he made a sign he didn't mind. I kept filming Ferry, as well as Twan (made close-ups, even though he didn't noticed it yet). I also filmed Rob, who made a brilliant thumbs-up on camera. Haha!
I also met up with Ferry's dad, who knew me from the forums and website. I was astounded, but that again I say he's a really cool man!
After a while my first tape was full, and I put in a new one. But it didn't take long (5-10 minutes) before the battery went empty. So I asked Mike to take over with his camera, which he did.
The Ferry Corsten truck had much for the fans up the sleeve. The Dance Therapy crew threw inflatable hands into the audience with the official Ferry Corsten logo. I didn't get mine until Ferry threw one himself: I managed to catch that one. I had put it onto my umbrella and I stack that thing really high in the sky at those typical 'hands-in-the-air moments'. I think that was the most ridiculous but also the most hilarious thing the people had seen (and I have ever done on a festival like this one). Doritos sponsored Ferry Corsten for the FFWD and the special promo crew who was on board the truck threw bags of that new Doritos product (what was it called again?)..
It was also f*cking awesome to see the whole DT crew including Ferry jump up and down on the truck which caused the trailer to bounce. :D This happened throughout the parade... I never saw anything that funny *super grin*
It was bloody warm, and the sweat broke loose. It was also bloody packed, people were desperately trying to get as close to Ferry, even though they weren't forum peeps. I don't mind, but they acted way too enthusiastic... chill out guys! you all get your chance!
At a sudden I met up with Sjoerd and Patrick. Patrick and a friend (your girlfriend?) won the contest on Ferry's website to be part of the dancing peeps on the Ferry truck. They were happy at it, I guess. At a moment it appears as if one of the speakers was blown up. Rob and Joeri both pointed somewhere: I thought it was something in the back. But Sjoerd said it was one of the speakers that exploded. But that problem was fixed immediately. There was also a small technical failure when he played Rock Your Body Rock, but it was solved immediately although he had to play the track again..
All of a sudden Ferry had to take a leak. So Ronald van Gelderen, who was also on the truck, took his place for a while. It was obvious no one really knew or accepted his appearance. But by the time Ferry got back, the crowd was swinging again. A little rude, but I'm afraid those peeps only had come for the top DJs. We continued, we crossed the Erasmus Bridge which was bouncing up and down because of the party people standing alongside the road, obviously partying like hell.
Near the end I met up with Jeroen (DJ Jerom), who asked me how Ferry was playing. I replied to him he played that good, one of those speakers just exploded...
At the end we did manage to see Ferry in private. Ferry kept saying "Loempia, Loempia..". I realised he was shouting that before, during the parade, but I couldn't read his lips. I finally realised Ferry did read the FFWD meet-up thread, and I felt ashamed not making those loempias. But if I were him, I would have made notice for it in advance though, hahaha.
Anyway we managed to make a group pic representing the Dutch forum crew together with Ferry, and right after that I made an extremely hilarious picture of Ferry and Linsey with her camera, while Ferry was desperately in the need to take another leak *lol* (was he?! hihihihi!! *big grin*)
Ferry: I can assure you, you can expect your delicious loempias on the next (public) dance event with you starring *winks*. Of course it would be nice if you make notice for it in advance ;)
Anyway, I thank the forum crew for their company, their enthusiasm and of course their love for Ferry: Sheila, Mike, Linsey, Bijtje, Tae, Chris, Jeroen, Sjoerd and of course Patrick (and friend). Too bad Nadine couldn't join us since she is on vacation.
See you all soon!
