Week 26 : Moby – Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Richard Melville Hall (Born on September 11, 1965 - New York, US) is the genius who’s behind the popular alternative dance act Moby. He started producing rave and acid house music in the late 80’s. He first released a few tracks under aliases like ‘U.H.F.’ and ‘Voodoo Child’. But he became most famous by releases under the Moby alias. For this project he produced and composed tracks like ‘Hymn’, ‘Feeling So Real’, ‘Move’ and of course every electronic dance music fan will know his famous house classic ‘Go’, which was released in 1991. He’s also responsible for various remixes for other well known artists and acts such as Michael Jackson, Blur, Jam & Spoon, Metallica and lots of others. Besides his productions and remixes Moby performs live on stage with a band as well. And sometimes you can also check him out DJ-ing in clubs or at festivals too.
Moby made a lot of albums during the years, such as ‘Ambient’, ‘18’, ‘Animal Rights’ and ‘I Like To Score’. That last one included a lot of soundtracks like the official theme from the James Bond movie ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ for example, which was a nice dance remake from the original James Bond title track. The most recent Moby album was released in 2005 and this one is called ‘Hotel’.
One of the most successful Moby albums up till now is ‘Play’, which saw its release in 1999. A lot of tracks from this album were released as a single. Tracks such as ‘Honey’, ‘Find My Baby’, ‘Porcelain’, ‘Natural Blues’ and ‘Bodyrock’ all entered the single charts. Also the track ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?’ came out as a single and entered the charts right after its release. The original album version is a down tempo track with vocals performed by The Shining Light Gospel Choir. Moby himself wrote, produced, engineered and mixed the track
The videoclip for the track is animated by by Susi Wilkinson, Filipe Alçada and Hotessa Laurence. The main character in the video is called ‘Little Idiot’ and that one was created by Moby himself. It can also be found on the cover of the CD Maxi of ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?’.
There are a few different remixes available of the track. André Tanneberger did a nice club remix under his ATB alias. Jerry Dickens a.k.a. Red Jerry (founder of Hooj Choons), The Sharp Boys, Katcha and Subsonic Legacy did remixes of it as well, but the most famous remix of the track was done by Ferry Corsten. Ferry turned the original down tempo version into an up tempo trance track, which was played by lots of DJ’s during that time. Apparently, Moby was very satisfied with the result, as in 2002 Ferry was asked again to remix another Moby track …
