Week 47 : East West – The Love I’ve Lost
Ayumi Hamasaki was born on October 2, 1978 in the Japanese city Fukuoka Prefecture and she is probably the most popular and successful female Japanese singer ever. During the years she already sold millions of albums, singles and music DVD’s. Auymi (also known under her ‘Ayu’ alias) is a so called ‘J-Pop’ singer. The style of her music is a sort of a happy, poppy genre. This type of music is very popular in Japan and lots of bands, acts and singers are releasing tracks in this genre. Ayumi Hamasaki is definitely the most famous and best selling ‘J-Pop’ artist ever so far.
In 2001 the Japanese record company Avex asked Ferry Corsten to produce a track for the new album of Ayumi Hamasaki. It had to be a real trance track, so Ferry started to write an instrumental version first. When it was finished Ferry gave this version ‘East West - The Love I Lost’ as a working title. It was send to the record company in Japan, so they could start writing the vocals for it. In the meantime Ferry had already started to play this instrumental demo version in his DJ sets.
Because the vocals that were written for the track, didn’t actually fit in the demo version that Ferry had made, he had to produce a new version. Nowadays, this version is known as ‘Ayu - Connected’. You can find this track on the Ayumi Hamasaki album ‘I Am …’ that was released on January 4 2002. ‘Connected’ was released later as a single as well, but the original ‘The Love I’ve Lost’ has never been released …
