Week 50 : Ferry Corsten – Fire
In 1990 The band Duran Duran released their album ‘Liberty’. One of the singles which was taken from this album was the synth pop track ‘Serious’. The single release of this track was also in the year 1990. The vocals on ‘Serious’ are performed by Duran Duran’s lead singer Simon Le Bon.

Early 2005 Ferry Corsten got the idea to use a small part of ‘Serious’ for a new track. So he took the first few lines of ‘Serious’ and he made his own, new version of it. When a demo version was finished, it was send to the management of Duran Duran in the US. Ferry was already in contact with them because he remixed the Duran Duran track ‘Reach Up (For The Sunrise)’ a few months before. When the band heard Ferry’s version, they really liked it a lot and they agreed that it had to be released as a single. So Ferry got the original outtakes including the full vocal parts of Simon’s voice. With the vocals, he could finish the final track in his studio. When the track was finished, Ferry gave it ‘Fire’ as title. Besides the original version and the radio edit, Ferry also made a ‘Flashover Remix’ of ‘Fire.
In April 2005 Duran Duran was in The Netherlands for some concerts in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. On the 13th of April Ferry had a short meeting with Simon Le Bon, just before their concert. During this conversation Simon told Ferry some things about the track ‘Serious’ and also how much he liked Ferry’s new ‘Fire’ version.
One of the first times that Ferry played ‘Fire’ during his sets, was on May 13 2005 during Ferry’s ‘L.E.F.’ party in The Thalia Lounge in Ferry’s hometown Rotterdam. Before the official release ‘Fire’ became ‘Future Favourite’ in the Armin van Buuren radio show ‘A State Of Trance’ and furthermore DJ’s like Wessel van Diepen (Dance Department) and Judge Jules (Tried & Tested on BBC Radio 1) played it in their radio shows! ‘Fire’ also became Floorfiller on the Radio 3FM show ‘Ministry Of Beats’ and ‘Grand Slam’ on SlamFM and ‘Fire’ was ‘Dance Smash’ on Radio 538 as well!
There are several versions of ‘Fire’ available. Besides the original and Ferry’s own ‘Flashover Remix’, the track was remixed by Ron van den Beuken, Bush II Bush and Robbie Rivera.
After the release, the track had some nice chart positions: ‘Fire’ reached the Top 20 in the Dutch charts (number 18 in the Top 40) and in the UK it became number 1 in the UK Music Week Club Charts! And ‘Fire’ is also the first single release from the Ferry Corsten ‘L.E.F.’ album.
