Part 070 : Ferry Corsten - Sweet Sorrow
When Ferry was busy with his ‘Right Of Way’ artist album, he was busy with a couple of electro sounding tracks. But he also wanted to have a pure trance track on the album as well. Ferry’s intention was to make something very emotional, but also a track without the ‘standard’ sounds in the regular trance productions. So he decided to use the Roland TB-303 synthesizer to create some acid sounds that he wanted to use in the track.
Ferry himself said this about the track: "When I made this track, I was going through a very personal and tough time in my life. Ironically, despite all this, I've produced a track that I'm personally proud of. It has the sweetness that I love yet the 'depression and anger' that I felt during that time. When the track was finally mixed and I heard in its final state, I simply felt that 'Sweet Sorrow' was the best title for it...Let those tears come then!"
As soon as it was finished, Ferry started playing the melancholic trance track in his DJ sets. Some people started mentioning ‘Sweet Sorrow’ on internet forums as ‘DJ Tiësto - Nyana (Ferry Corsten Remix), but that was not correct of course. In an interview in December 2003 Tiësto even explained that Ferry never remixed that track. On the release party of Ferry’s ‘Right Of Way’ album (25-10-2003) Ferry played ‘Sweet Sorrow’ as well. The album was for sale there as well, so after this night we finally knew the title of this wonderful song.
The vinyl release of ‘Sweet Sorrow’ was early September 2004 on the ‘Tsunami’ label (TSU 6050) with the original album version and a remix done by Steve Helstrip under his ‘The THrillseekers’ alias. A month later the remix vinyl was released (TSU 6051) with a remix done by Oliver Shine and a new version done by Ferry himself. Ferry also wanted to have a more banging version of the track, so that’s why it needed a ‘Ferry Corsten Fix’.
