Sorry to offend you, this is not a song, it is actually a piece of music. Sorry to be picky, but that's how this piece is described. If music holds no words it is a piece of music, if music holds and has words then you can call it a song.

actually it is in fact a "song"!!!

The story goes back to Samuel Barber who wrote it in 1936, with the original intent as a slow movement for a string quartet.

In classical music, the slow movements are most often based on the song structure (simplified in letters: ABA, AAB or ABC -> A is the (returning) main material, B is the part of the song we call "turning point".. C, D etc is for more unusual structures, that is called a "progressing song").

Anyway, because of the intense beauty of the melody and the extremely lush harmony, Barber made a transcription of the original string quartet part for string orchestra, what is now the very famous Adagio For Strings.

Note: in the song structure, the A and the B can be very long parts (depends on the composer)!

Now, did I just own you?

This structure is very old, but saw its ultimate highlight in the early 19th century thanks to Franz Schubert (1797 - 1828).

    So, I pwned you didn't I?
I hope that you don't think I am being rude, does this piece of music have any words in it? (Accept the Vocal Version of Samuel Barber's Creation composition.) I ask becasue I thought that if a Piece of music holds no words in that particular composition, then it can not be called a song in hiensight?
Like: Ludvig Van Beethovens' Moonlight Sonata, that is a Piece of music, as it holds no words? I am not a genious in the world of music and compositions but I was taught by my piano teacher when learning the piano, the differences between 'Songs' and 'Pieces of music.' Words or no words? If you do know music more than me if you have been educated at a better standard can you please confirm with me the difference please, I'd like to know?

there are 2 types of songs: the structure and the composition. The structure is appliable in the previous post, and the composition of 'song' is what you mean now (and ofcourse, there are instrumental, and vocal songs.. you won't believe it, but it's true)

Anyway, we should definitely get back to the topic, since neither of us have brought anything good into this topic

    Thumbs up This composition.

The Composition that is described William Orbits Barber Adagio for Strings is the most breathtaking composition I have ever heard, I know that the Remix by Mr Corsten, has to be the most suitable for this track. As Mr Corsten again in another track creates with absolute perfection, Perfection is too much of a soft word for this composition Ferry Composed, perfection only describes half of what I am trying to say about it.

History for when I first heard the Ferry Corsten remix was on Judge Jules' Tried and tested Radio 1 show on Saturday nights in 1999/2000, I must say I was almost brought to tears of joy and movement from the composition. I'm sorry to go on, this has to be one of the greatest compositions ever made in the genres that it is in. I really enjoy this track and can listen to it over and over again and still get the adrenalin rush from it.

Ferry Corsten William Orbit and Samuel Barber have made a masterpiece into a supermasterpiece.

What about the bootleg which Above & beyond created? With some vocals in the break......I like that one too, but nothing beats the original which ferry created!

I've only added the official releases that were released as 'William Orbit', so that's also the reason why there is nothing about the version by Tiësto.
